I was gobsmacked,” said Kevin Beresford, president of the Roundabout Appreciation Society. Beresford added that this one is the Holy Grail of roundabouts, unlike most roundabouts that are merely “an oasis in a sea of asphalt.”
The windmill, one of the last of its type remaining in York, has been restored by the 600 members of the Holgate Windmill Preservation Society.
When the honor of being of the cover of the 2013 calendar was announced, the chair of the Holgate Mill Preservation Society, Jenny Hartland, said they are very grateful for the accolade.
Previous winners have been the BFI IMAX Roundabout in London (near Waterloo Station) and the Shepherd and Flock Roundabout (pub inside a roundabout) in Farnham.

These roundabouts are really cool, but I can’t see them working in the US. The drivers here are distracted enough with texting, phoning, eating, putting on makeup etc, all they need is something else to look at and distract them while driving.
