Germany's uneconomically named economics minister forced to resign

But not because of his long name. It’s because he plagiarized while at the university:

This resignation will help the German economy. No longer having to print the long name will save ink and paper. It also will speed up the ministry’s operations. Less time will be needed for the minister to sign him name.
