Dear DMC
Here is one of those delightful “scientists have discovered” pieces – with a verdict on the ideal length of a nap. To avoid unnecessary suspense, I can reveal that the answer is somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes.

Dear Steve,
A delightful article indeed. I was on the edge of my chair reading the various views about the recommended length of the nap. I gather the consensus is 20 minutes. Longer than that risks falling into a deep sleep. Deep sleep can lead to grogginess when you wake up.
I like the clever idea of drinking coffee just before taking the nap. Coffee takes about 20 minutes to kick in and wake you up.

I go for 20 or 30 minutes too. Often I take 20 – the alarm goes off – then another 10 if I feel like it. As with the comment above much more than that I feel like I’ve been hit with a sledgehammer on trying to get up.
The coffee tip is great. Must try that.
Dear DMC
Napping is good for you, good for your work, good for your company, as The Energy Project puts it at

A question before dozing off on a Sunday afternoon : is there a substantial difference between napping and dozing?
Yours sincerely
