Save Wrestling

The International Olympic Committee restored wrestling to the Summer Games — reversing its decision from last February to drop wrestling after the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The problem for us now is the basis for the restoration — the matches will be changed. Wrestling was removed because matches often were dull.

To get it back in, the worldwide governing body for wrestling reformed the matches. They made them more dynamic — wrestlers who are aggressive will be rewarded — wrestlers who remain passive will be punished.

Another restoration long overdue — Tug of War

What about another sport that’s been removed — Tug of War? Tug of War was an Olympic sport from 1900 to 1920. We heard that the Tug of War International Federation was going to try to get their sport reinstated. Apparently, however, they did not follow though with this.

Speaking of Tug of War, there’s a great one taking place today at Dulles Airport west of Washington, DC — Dulles Day Plane Pull — Saturday September 14, 2013.

Other Games

We blogged last year, when the London Olympics were taking place, about other candidates for the Olympics:

•  Black Pudding Throwing

•  Pea Shooting

•  Cheese Rolling

Queuing

We also blogged that Queuing should be an Olympic sport. Or at least have an award for queuing since it is so commonplace at the Olympics.

Pole Dancing

Unbelievable as it may sound, pole dancing has been proposed to be in the Olympics.
